Barbara Irshay Zipperman named President of Family Divorce Solutions of San Fernando Valley

January 15, 2015

bZipperman(Sherman Oaks, California) – Family law attorney, mediator and collaborator Barbara Irshay Zipperman has been named President of Family Divorce Solutions of San Fernando Valley for the 2015 term.

Family Divorce Solutions focuses on the practice of Collaborative Law, applied primarily in divorce cases and family law, and also in civil disputes. In family law cases, attorneys work with mental health professionals and financial experts to offer guidance to clients. The organization’s members work toward the goal of getting parties together and quickly coming to an acceptable legal solution without going to court.

“Collaborative Law represents a significant shift in thinking about how best to resolve family law and other civil disputes,” said Zipperman. “Not long ago, the only accepted approach to divorce was the traditional litigation model. Now divorcing couples can take an approach that keeps decision-making in their hands, rather than handing their future over to the courts. It preserves privacy, reduces emotional stress on the family and is a far more respectful process for everyone involved. It can also be far less expensive than waging war in court through litigation,” added Zipperman.

Zipperman has over three decades of experience practicing exclusively in the field of family law. Zipperman believes that whenever possible, the process of dissolving and restructuring a family should be accomplished in a peaceful and dignified manner through consensual dispute resolution methods such as collaborative law or mediation. In her own practice, Zipperman is committed to the process of Collaborative Law as a means to transform the dissolution process from an adversarial and position based process to a process with emphasis on negotiation and compromise based upon the best interest of her client and his/her family.

Zipperman serves as a volunteer mediator/settlement officer for the Los Angeles Superior Court family law department. She also serves as a member of the State Bar Consensual Dispute  Resolution Committee. Zipperman is a member of the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association and a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She has extensive training and experience in negotiation, collaboration and mediation.

Zipperman is a founding member of Family Divorce Solutions, and has devoted significant time and effort to the growth and development of collaborative law and the Family Divorce Solutions group.

Zipperman’s practice is based in Encino, California. She is a longtime resident of Sherman Oaks, California, the proud mother of Max (22) and Hannah (20) and when not working she can be found hiking the Santa Monica mountains with her husband Don and their dog Whiskey.

“My goal in any legal matter is to educate and help guide parties to a fair resolution and avoid stressful, lengthy and expensive litigation,” said Zipperman. “My reward is when they reach a comprehensive settlement in a peaceful and respectful manner.”
